[From Akita Prefecture] Black bear sighting alert
Update date: May 13, 2026
Since bear attacks on people occur every year during the spring wild vegetable picking season, we are issuing a widespread warning.
We request that you thoroughly implement basic measures to prevent personal injury and take all necessary precautions against accidents in the mountains .
[Basic Measures] ● Make noise with bells, your voice, or your smartphone to make your presence known and avoid encountering bears. ● If you spot a bear, contact your local government or the police, and share information with your community using services like Kumadas. ● Keep garage and shed doors closed at all times. ● Do not leave food that bears eat outdoors, such as rice, rice bran, food waste, or livestock feed.
