Tazawako station, and was renamed to its current name in 1966 (Showa 41) when the entire line between Morioka and Omagari stations was opened. The current station building, which was renovated in 1997 to coincide with the opening of the Akita Shinkansen, features a design that makes extensive use of glass windows so that trains arriving at the platform can be seen from various locations within the station, and won the Good Design Award in 1998.

Tsurunoyu Onsen
The oldest hot spring in Akita, also used by the feudal lord of Akita, is a therapeutic hot spring resort for the feudal lord of Akita. Kaniba Onsen is a healing hot spring surrounded by nature. It was named after the large number of crayfish found in the surrounding streams. It is a historic hot spring that was opened in 1846 (the 3rd year of the Koka era). There are two types of indoor baths, one made of rock and one made of wood, and a mixed bath in the beech forest about a 50m walk from the main building. Ogama Onsen
Okama Onsen, with its nostalgic atmosphere, has the appearance of a simple wooden school building, which was relocated and restored from an abandoned school in the prefecture. The greenish hot spring that flows out is also known as a bitter spring, and is called the "wound water" or "skin water."
