What is “Sasara”? It is said that when the Satake Kita family was transferred from Hitachi to Akita, the dance performed by the dancers accompanying Lord Satake Yoshinobu along the way to entertain him became established in the area, and it has a history of over 400 years. Currently, it is performed as part of the Obon festival to honor ancestral spirits, commemorate the recently deceased, and pray for a bountiful harvest.
