Shinzanji Temple
As the autumn leaves in Kakunodate near their end, the “Milk Ginkgo” at Shinzanji Temple in Nishiki-cho turns golden. This ginkgo tree, approximately 600 years old and 40 meters tall, is a male tree that doesn’t bear fruit. However, it was once believed that mothers with insufficient breast milk would tie white paper to the ginkgo’s hanging “milk” and pray, which would improve their milk supply!
