Kakunodate Sasara Dance: Obon Tourist Event

角館のささら舞 送り盆観光行事

What is a "sasara"?
This event has a history of over 400 years, and is said to have taken root in the area when the Satake clan was transferred from Hitachi to Akita and accompanied Lord Satake Yoshinobu to comfort his lord along the way.
Nowadays, as one of the Bon festival events, the dance is performed to pray for the souls of ancestors and new Buddhas, and for a bountiful harvest.
