Reviving Cultural Heritage: Samurai Residences Representing Kakunodate

Kakunodate Historical Village, Aoyagi House

The Aoyagi family samurai residence tells the story of 400 years of history in the Michinoku region. Within its 3,000-tsubo (approximately 10,000 square meter) grounds, overflowing with flowers and plants, the site includes the main house, an armory, a museum dedicated to the "Kaitai Shinsho" (New Book of Anatomy), and six other museums, offering sword displays and local cultural experiences. With a variety of cafes, restaurants, and shops, there's always something interesting to see. Guided tours of the main house, which are not open to the public, are also popular. Enjoy a journey through history, experiencing and feeling its history firsthand.
