Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture, is a town that has nurtured the traditions of craftsmanship along with its historic samurai residences. In early October, Ochiai Sports Park and the cherry blossom-lined streets, bathed in the vibrant colors of autumn, are filled with shops selling original goods by artists of ceramics, woodwork, lacquerware, glass, metal, leather, and textiles, as well as restaurants serving healthy meals.
Ceramics, glass, metal, woodwork, lacquer, fabrics, leather, dyeing and weaving, textiles, braiding, shops and food are all gathered here.
