Kakunodate Cherry Blossom Festival Dates: Every year from April 15th to May 5th The Kakunodate Cherry Blossom Festival attracts over 1.2 million visitors from all over Japan during this period. Various events are also held throughout the city, making the town very lively. Be sure to stroll along the historic samurai residence street under the full bloom of cherry blossoms. Kakunodate is known as a town of cherry blossoms, and this viewpoint allows you to experience that firsthand. 👀 You can enjoy a panoramic view of the rows of Somei Yoshino cherry trees along the Hinokinai River and the weeping cherry trees that cover the town in bloom. 🌸 The elevation of Kojōyama is 168m, making it a relatively easy walking course.

Along the samurai residence street, natural monument weeping cherry trees and ancient trees over 300 years old bloom so profusely that their blossoms seem to rain down on the street. Every year, the weeping cherry tree in front of the Kakunodate Cherry Bark Craft Museum begins to bloom first. Because there are many shaded areas along the samurai residence street, the cherry trees in front of the museum often bloom two to three days later. The cherry branches hanging over the samurai residences and black wooden fences are especially picturesque 💯 It is Kakunodate’s number one cherry blossom viewing spot, with many tourists strolling along the street with cameras in hand. In the evening, the crowds thin out, and it is recommended to visit from the time the cherry blossoms are illuminated at night 👍 You can see the enchanting beauty of the weeping cherry trees, which is different from how they look during the day!

Along the Hinokinai River embankment, a row of Somei Yoshino cherry trees stretches for 2 kilometers.🌸 Every year, they begin to bloom 1-2 days after the weeping cherry trees along the samurai residence street, and reach their peak about 5 days after they begin to bloom. It’s the perfect spot for cherry blossom viewing parties🍡, and many townspeople enjoy cherry blossom viewing here.
