Tsurunoyu Onsen is one of the eight inns in Nyuto-Onsenkyo Onsenkyo at the foot of Mt.nyuto (1478m), and is the oldest hot spring inn in the area.
It is said that in the 15th year of the Kan'ei era (1638), the second lord of the Akita domain, Yoshitaka Satake, and in the 1st year of the Kanbun era (1661), the lord of the Kameda domain, Genba Iwaki, visited Tsuru no Yu for a hot spring bath. Records of the hotel serving general guests as a hot spring inn date back to the Genroku period (1688-1704).
It is said that the name Tsuru-no-Yu came from a local hunter named Kansuke, who found a crane that had been injured while hunting and was able to heal its wounds in the hot water, and that is how the name Tsuru-no-Yu remained.
