Surrounding Areas

Stepping outside of Senboku City, you'll find surrounding areas where you can experience the local way of life and culture more deeply. Two prime examples are the area around Suzuki Sake Brewery in Daisen City and the area along the Akita Inland Line in Kitaakita City. Both are easily accessible from Senboku City, making them ideal for day trips. Exploring these two areas, with their distinct landscapes, cultures, and pace of life, will reveal a more three-dimensional and authentic side of Akita.

Daisen City is a region where rural areas and merchant towns seamlessly blend together. Among them, Suzuki Sake Brewery is known for its meticulous sake brewing, using the groundwater of the Ou Mountains as its brewing water. The attached shop offers everything from standard products to seasonal limited editions, allowing you to experience the depth of flavor unique to the brewery. Small shops, restaurants, and roadside stations are scattered throughout the area, giving you a sense of simple yet powerful daily life. If you venture further into the city center, you will find Omagari, known for having the largest fireworks display in Japan, and festivals and fireworks events are held throughout the area during the summer.

On the other hand, Kitaakita City is located in a mountainous area along the Akita Inland Line. From the train window, you can see mountains and rivers painted in the colors of the four seasons, and simple villages. Along the line, you can enjoy magnificent natural scenery such as Mt. Moriyoshi, small museums that convey local culture, and shops rooted in the local community, making it a great place to stop and explore on a local railway. Access may be limited, but that only deepens the experience and allows you to carefully savor the atmosphere and scenery of each station.

By using Senboku City as your base and visiting these "other areas," you can experience a different side of Akita, distinct from the glamorous tourist spots.

Other area streets

These are areas where the atmosphere of everyday life is felt more strongly than in typical tourist spots.
Around Suzuki Shuzō in Daisen City, the townscape is characterized by peaceful stretches of fields and homes. The low buildings and distant mountain ranges framing the horizon create a sense of calm that you won’t find in urban areas. Wooden fences of the brewery, old wooden houses, and small local shops are scattered throughout the area. Seasonal flowers and the changing colors of rice fields shift the scenery, and simply walking through the town allows you to feel naturally immersed in the rhythm of daily life.

Along the Akita Nairiku Line, even quieter, more mountain-oriented landscapes unfold. Small stations and villages sit gently beside rivers and on hillsides, surrounded by cedar forests, beech woods, and clear streams that reflect the colors of each season.
Neither place is flashy; instead, the accumulated layers of everyday life are the true highlight. In the calmness and the unhurried flow of time, if you focus on the scenery and listen carefully to the voices and the subtle signs of life, you will discover a quiet, refined charm that is uniquely Akita—distinct from typical sightseeing spots.
