Tomachi

外町(とまち)

Former merchant town

"Tomachi", in contrast to the samurai mansion-lined "Uchimachi", followed by the cityscape, such as merchant, you feel the history.

Many old buildings and storehouses remain, and while cherishing this space even today, it is being utilized in stores and restaurants.

Ando family (city designated tangible cultural property)

Kura no Kura, a brick warehouse of "Andojyozo Co., Ltd." in Shimoshinmachi, is the oldest existing in the Tohoku region. The warehouse facing the street was built in 1891 after learning from the repeated fires of Tomachi (merchant town). Brick fired in Kakunodate Shiraiwa is used, and the inside of the warehouse is currently open to the public.

Ota family

The Ota family is opposite the Ando miso soy sauce brewer. The Ota family is a landowner in the Semboku region, and the built-in residence continues to Tamachi Bukeyashiki-dori. The Western-style building of the Ota family remains on Tamachi Bukeyashiki-dori.

Sakamoto house

That redolent of bygone days in the lasted merchant of the warehouse from the Edo period is Sakamoto house of Kamishin the town.
