Kakunodate's Sasara Dance: Obon Festival Tourism Event

角館のささら舞 送り盆観光行事

What is "sasara"?
It is said that this event, which dates back more than 400 years, first took root in the area when the Northern Satake clan was transferred from Hitachi to Akita and accompanied Lord Satake Yoshinobu on his journey there to comfort him.
Nowadays, as one of the Bon festival events, the dance is performed to pray for the souls of ancestors and new Buddhas, and for a good harvest.
